I built Scope & Scout, a job-search organizer, around how a real search works
- Company and role
- Scope & Scout · Founder and AI-Enabled Product Builder
- The problem
- Mid-career candidates juggling many applications lose track of opportunities, interviews, and offers — and existing AI career tools often feel untrustworthy.
- What I did
- Designed the product around the four stages of a real search: match, track, prep, decide.
- Built it solo with Claude and Replit, with strict trust rules (no fabrication, no auto-apply).
- Set a free tier and paywall around the moment a search gets serious.
- The result
- A shipped product built solo, now being marketed through paid ads and search-engine visibility.
- Who I worked with
- Built solo; shaped by direct candidate feedback.
- Built by
- Meredythe, solo
- Tech used
- Claude, Replit, and modern AI tools
- Users & revenue
- Early stage — no paying customers yet; paid-ad and search-visibility tests in progress
Overview
Scope & Scout is a job-search command center for mid-career candidates managing many applications at once, the people I think of as Multi-Threaders. Instead of a feature list, it is organized around the actual arc of a search: match the right roles, track every opportunity, prepare for each round, and decide between offers. I built it as a founder and AI-enabled product builder using Claude and Replit, and I am now marketing it through paid ads and search-engine visibility.
The Challenge
A serious job search is really many searches running in parallel, and the tools people reach for are not built for that. Spreadsheets, notes, and inboxes scatter the state of each opportunity, so candidates lose track of where they stand, walk into interviews under-prepared, and compare offers from memory. The harder product question was trust: an AI career tool has obvious ways to fail, from hallucinated experience to spammy auto-apply to uses of personal data that feel invasive.
My Approach
- Shaped the product around the real job-search journey, match, track, prep, and decide, rather than a catalog of features.
- Treated preparation as a loop candidates run before every round, not a one-time step, and built the prep experience around that repeating behavior.
- Made trust and constraint first-class product decisions with deliberate promises: grounded in the candidate's real evidence, never fabricates, never applies for them, approved-only autofill, results are not saved, and mock-interview scoring that will not flatter.
- Lowered time-to-value so a new visitor can try their first match in seconds with no account needed.
- Capped the free tier at 3 scopes, 10 applications, and 1 mock interview so the paywall lands exactly when a search gets serious.
The Results
- Shipped a product organized around the four stages of a real search, match, track, prep, and decide, so the tool matches how candidates actually work.
- Established a clear differentiation stance against the common AI-career-tool failure modes by deciding what the product will not do: no fabrication, no auto-apply, approved-only autofill, and unsaved results.
- Built a coherent first-try-to-paying story: no-account first match for fast time-to-value and a usage-capped free tier that reaches the paywall when the search intensifies.
